About Us
The 'Desert Inn Hotel' formerly known as the 'Palace Hotel' was estimated to have been constructed in 1902 by architect Mr. W.E. Robertson, builder Mr. C. Arnott and owned by Mr. George McOmish who was granted his Publican General License in June 1902 which allowed him to serve as the proprietor at the Palace Hotel. The eastern side of the hotel was originally the front entrance which, at the time, was on the main street of Laverton known as Laver Place. The hotel opened in July 1902. The hotel changed hands a few times throughout the years, until the Leahy family brought it in 1918 and it remained in the Leahy family for over 50 years. Around 1985 the Palace hotel was renamed to what it is known as today, The Desert Inn Hotel.

The Great Beyond Visitor Centre – Home of the Explorers Hall of Fame
The landscape of the Northern Goldfields of Western Australia is a unique and varied one, of shifting sands, of stony mountain ranges, eucalypt woodlands, mulga scrub, rivers, creeks and salt lakes – but have you ever considered how the early explorers and pioneers coped with these unfamiliar and unforgiving conditions?
The Great Beyond Explorers Hall of Fame in Laverton allows visitors to be transported to a time of exploration and endeavour as the heroes of the inland tell their stories of hardship, bravery and perseverance in harsh and dangerous conditions.
As each explorer ‘speaks’ of their experiences and reasons for venturing into the unknown, it brings their characters to life like no book can ever achieve.
Using various attention grabbing forms of technology that are sure to impress people of all ages, the Hall of Fame pays tribute to not only the explorers but also to the pioneers and women of the same era. From the gold rush days to the flora and fauna, pastoral history to the nickel boom of 1969, the Hall of Fame provides an overview from pre-history to present day.
The Great Beyond Explorers Hall of Fame is a central, vibrant place where a diverse range of visitors and locals go to share stories, often over a freshly brewed coffee. Housing the town's Visitor Centre, a gift shop and a cafe, the Hall of Fame is rarely quiet with an event, exhibition or just great atmosphere keeping the visitors entertained.
Open seven days a week, there is always a chance to visit the state of the art display in the Hall of Fame, browse the extensive collections of books and souvenirs or relax and enjoy a bite to eat.
Laverton Aboriginal Art Gallery
The Laverton Aboriginal Art Gallery is a not-for-profit organisation established to display, promote and sell authentic Aboriginal art on behalf of the people of the Laverton and Western Desert area.
The gallery houses an extensive range of art and is well worth a visit whilst in Laverton.
There are a wide range of acrylic on canvas paintings, wooden artefacts such as didgeridoos, boomerangs, bowls, digging, tapping and hitting sticks, beads and other local crafted wooden items.
Hand-dyed silk scarves are a particular feature of the Marlu Kuru Kuru women's artist collective.
Laverton Aquatic Centre
Features include a 25m four lane Lap Pool (1.2m to 1.8m depth), a Leisure Pool (0.00mm to 900mm depth), a Spa, Dump Buckets, a Geyser, an Octopus Slide, a Spray Ball and a Rainbow Spray, and Family Change Room facilities.
Laverton Race Day
The Laverton races are held annually in October is an iconic day for those in the region, including Fashions on the Field as well as a Bookmaker and Tote facilities to complement the day.
